Albert Richard "Dick" Miller

Albert Richard “Dick” Miller, 85, of Harrisburg, SD, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society-Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2025, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. Burial will take place at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2025, also at the funeral home. Albert Richard “Dick” Miller was born on March 28, 1940, in Boulder, Colorado, to Albert and Mary (VanHee) Miller. He attended elementary school in Colorado and graduated from Newcastle High School in Newcastle, Wyoming, in 1959. Following high school, Dick served in the U.S. Army and on August 20, 1965, he was united in marriage to Lona Rossman in Newcastle.

In 1966, Dick began his career with the U.S. State Department, Foreign Service, for 24 years. Dick served overseas in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Lourenco Marques, Mozambique, Africa; Paris, France; Manila, Philippines; Manama, Bahrain; Oslo, Norway; Ankara, Turkey; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and London, England. He retired from the Foreign Service in 1990 and moved to Sioux Falls, SD. In 1995, he joined Midland National Life and retired from Midland in 2005.

In 1999, Dick and Lonny moved to rural Harrisburg/Tea, SD, where he spent the next 13 years chauffeuring and taking care of his granddaughters after school and summers.

Dick was an avid stamp and coin/currency collector and enjoyed many family vacations.

Those who remember Dick best will recall his quick wit, jokester attitude of one-liners, and master of poking fun.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lonny of Harrisburg, SD; son, Allen (Teresa) Miller of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Angie (Jamie) Wahl of Harrisburg, SD; grandchildren, Adriene (Autumn) Miller of Tea, SD, Samantha Wahl of Canton, SD, and Josie (Noah) Shaffer, U.S. Navy stationed in Japan; great-grandchild, Sage; four brothers; along with several nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary (VanHee) Miller; along with one brother and one sister.
