Phil Schmitz - General Manager

Phil was born in Decorah, Iowa, the third of eight children. He grew up in northeast Iowa where he graduated from high school. He attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and graduated with honors from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in Dallas, Texas. He is a third-generation funeral director. He grew up in a funeral service family where he worked for a short time before beginning employment with George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in 1985. He became the manager of the firm in 1993 and became a shareholder in the firm in 1994. After 30 years as managing partner, Phil moved his office to Hills of Rest Cemetery where he has served as president and manager since September of 2003. He continues to maintain professional funeral director licenses in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota, and is a nationally Certified Crematory Operator.
Phil is a former member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and recently transferred his membership to St. Therese Catholic Church in Sioux Falls; he is a member of the Knights of Columbus; member of the International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association; former member of Sioux Falls Downtown Rotary as well as other professional organizations. He is married to his wife Pam and has one son, Zach. When not at work, Phil enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, traveling, public speaking, watching people mow their lawns and reading.

Shelley Roemeling - Cemetery Administrator

Shelley grew up in Sioux Falls, SD. She attended college at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work and Psychology. After working a few positions in the social services field, Shelley became a full-time stay at home mother.

Shelley joined the staff at Hills of Rest Memorial Park in 2015. Her responsibilities include working with families to make interment arrangements on a pre-need or at-need basis.

Shelley is married and has three children. She is a member of St. Michael's Church. Shelley enjoys cooking, walks, movies, traveling and spending time with her family. Questions? Please email me at: shelley@hillsofrest.com

Amy Pullman - Sexton

Amy was born and raised in the California Bay Area. She attended Las Positas College where she studied Communications.

Amy held many office management positions before leaving the workforce in 2006 to be a stay at home mom. During her time at home, she held several volunteer positions and owned her own small business.

Amy joined the Hills of Rest staff in 2024. As the Sexton for the cemetery, she is responsible for the administrative and record keeping duties of the office.

Amy is married and has 3 sons. She enjoys golfing, traveling, hiking, reading and spending time with family.
