Aloysius Adam Fix, son of Rose Fix Bangert, was born in Ashton, IA, on May 22, 1930. He enjoyed a long life of 95 years appreciating the simple things in life and the beauty in the people, places, and even the sun and the clouds. Al died on July 14, 2025, after a short stay in the Sanford Heart Hospital surrounded by his family.
Al and his mother moved to Sioux Falls in the 1940’s. Al married Beverly Oines on May 14, 1960, in Brookings, SD. They made their home in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union Steve, Sharon, and Sandi formed their family. Al embodied what it means to be an amazing dad: patient teacher, gentle caregiver, and loving husband. He provided us with all our needs wrapped in unconditional love and fun memories. The circle of family grew as spouses joined the family. Grandchildren Tom, Katelyn, and Michael became the joy of his life as he played with them, supported them, and attended all their sporting events, band events, and significant milestones in their lives.
Al was a hard worker all his life. In his teenage years he worked for Fenn’s ice cream and as a bicycle messenger delivering telegrams all over Sioux Falls. He later worked for John Morrell for 33 years as a utility butcher. After that, his side job of being a “Mr. Fix-it” repairman became his main job, FIX-ing everything from appliances to automobiles. He had a natural ability to learn mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and construction. He later enjoyed shuttling cars for dealerships across the country and into Mexico. Al was a golden glove boxer, a competitive quick draw pistol shooter, bowler, storyteller, pheasant hunter, card player, and Jitterbug dancer. He loved to sing wherever he was. He enjoyed singing hymns, country songs, and humorous songs from the past, but especially Johnny Cash.
Al was a strong man of faith who lived by example. He often said that the week just didn't feel right if they didn't go to church. He was a member of East Side Lutheran Church and appreciated his pastors and church family. His gentle spirit, the twinkle of his eyes, his smile, his laugh, and his infectious giggle will be missed.
Al is survived by his wife, Beverly of Sioux Falls; Son, Steve Fix and his wife, Jeanne; grandchildren Tom, Katelyn and Michael Fix; Daughter, Sharon Fix and her husband, Mark Eliason, all of Sioux Falls, daughter, Sandi Fix and her husband, Chris Best of Charlotte, NC., as well as many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Bangert; stepdad, Bernard Bangert; his maternal grandparents, Martin and Mary Fix, mother-in-law Tilda Oines, father-in-law Armond Oines, and brother-in-law Jim Berg.
