Anna Marie (Wookey) Knopf was born on June 15, 1936, on a rural farm near Clark, SD, to Frank and Fay (Hart) Wookey. Marie graduated from Clark High School and continued her education at Northern State Teacher’s College in Aberdeen, SD, taking a two-year teacher’s course. Marie went back to college and received her four-year teaching certificate in 1981.
On April 27, 1957, Marie was united in marriage to Homer Knopf at the Lutheran Church in Webster, SD. The only people at their wedding were Donald and Vivian Schmeling, who stood up with them. The next day, Marie went back to college and finished her degree. In 1958, the couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD. Homer worked as a truck driver for Glendenning Motorways and Nash Finch. Marie worked at a bank and then went on to work at the Sheriff’s Office. She later was employed at Citibank and Wells Fargo in the Fraud Department. In 1981, Marie and Homer opened an adult foster care facility in their home. It later became K-nopf Assisted Living Center, in which the whole family became involved in until 2006.
Marie came from a family of four children. Her first love was the Lord and then her family. They lived on a farm and there was always a lot of work to be done. Marie realized that God had given her the greatest gift, which was the knowledge about Jesus and having a close family. Her greatest love was Jesus, Homer, and her children. Marie loved getting together for family reunions and birthdays.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Pamela (Mark McKleroy) Knopf, Michael (Kim) Knopf, and Jeff (Heidi) Knopf; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Homer; son, Patrick; daughter, Candace; grandsons, Joshua and Levi; and brothers, Kendall, Lyman, and Myron “Dale”.
