Anthony J. Burns

Anthony “Tony” J Burns passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024. He was born on January 18, 1946 in Newmarket, England. Tony moved to America as a child, where he grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Tony was a one-of-a-kind loving soul who touched everyone around him. His humor and strength will stay with us always. He leaves us with memories we will cherish forever. From a young age he worked alongside his father, and uncles, shaping his tireless work ethic and feeding an entrepreneurial spirit that would carry him through his life.

In the 1980’s, Tony took a leap and opened Taco Bandito, a taco shop that quickly became a Sioux Falls institution. Known for its flavor and heart, Taco Bandito developed a loyal following and Tony loved every minute of it. People would often ask him when Taco Bandito would reopen, a testament to the lasting impact of his early venture.

Tony’s next chapter took him to the car business, where he found his true calling. A natural-born salesman, he built his reputation on honesty and humor, forming connections that endured for decades. Whether closing deals or simply swapping stories, Tony’s charisma and quick wit left a mark on everyone he met.

Outside of work, Tony found freedom on the open road. Riding his motorcycle was one of his greatest joys, offering him an escape and a sense of adventure. The rumble of the engine and the stretch of highway ahead were his sanctuary—a place where he felt truly at peace.

He is survived by his five children: Todd, Troy, Travis, Mycah, and Meagan, and eight grandchildren: Faith, Noah, Ryder, Bennett, Cooper, Kyler, Liam, and Jayda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Muriel Burns, Tony also leaves behind siblings Roger, Terry, Diane and Larry, who are spread across the country.

Tony Burns lived life with independence, grit, and a keen sense of humor that will be remembered by everyone he touched. His journey was one of resilience, self-determination, and adventure—an inspiring life, fully lived, on his own terms.

Per his wishes, no services will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
