Arthur Lee Sattler, age 85, of Eastvale, CA, passed away on October 1, 2024. Art was born on January 20, 1939, in Gregory, SD, to Emil and Elsie (Cerv) Sattler. He attended St. Joseph Catholic grade school and graduated from Gregory High School in 1957 with fifty-eight classmates. He excelled in sports, particularly football, basketball, and track. His athletic talents earned him a football scholarship to South Dakota State University, where he played for the Jack Rabbits all four years. He was also active in track and field; He was a Two-time North Central Conference Champion for Javelin 1960 and 1961 and held the record at SDSU from 1960-1983. Art graduated with a degree in Engineering Physics and continued his education, earning a master’s degree in physics from University of California Los Angeles and a master’s in business management from Cal State Fullerton University. He began his professional career at Autonetics in Anaheim, California, after graduating in 1961.
In 1962, he married Kay Coffitt, whom he met during his sophomore year of college. Together, they had four children: Cynthia, Steven, Michael, and Jill. They enjoyed 38 years of marriage before Kay passed away in 1999.
Throughout his career, Art worked at Rockwell and later Boeing, rising through the ranks thanks to his strong work ethic and South Dakota roots. He worked with the Department of Defense, traveled extensively, and was instrumental in the Space Shuttle program, designing a component that was on exhibit at the Smithsonian for many years. He retired in 1997 as CEO & Director of Component Engineering, Boeing Company.
In 2001, Art married Betty (Van Cleave) Pistulka, a longtime friend and classmate. They spent their summers camping in the Black Hills, golfing, and enjoying time with family and friends.
He was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Joseph’s Church and belonged to Immaculate Conception Church in Winner and Oscar Romero Parish in Eastvale, CA.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers; his brother Donald Sattler; wife Wanda Sattler; brother-in-law Bill Curtis; and stepmother Janet (Cerny) Sattler.
He is survived by his wife Betty; his children Cynthia Sattler, Steven (Johanna) Sattler, Mike (Erica) Sattler, and Jill (Mark) Larsen; grandchildren: Cole (Trish), Ian, Dain, Nate, Zane, and Zoe; as well as stepchildren Lisa Minardi, Bill Pistulka, and Merideth Marier; stepgrandchildren Maxwell, Madisyn, Bailey, Kristin, William, and step-great-grandchild Hayden.
