Barbara "Bobbie" Jean Long

Barbara Jean (Munce) Long, lovingly called Bobbie, went to be with her Lord on March 26, 2026, at the age of 98. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at First Lutheran Church (327 S. Dakota Ave., Sioux Falls). The family will greet friends for visitation from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Monday, April 6, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home - Downtown Chapel (507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ava's House in Sioux Falls or the Alzheimer's Association.

Bobbie was born, along with her twin brother, Dick, on March 11, 1928, to William and Myrtle (Brandt) Munce in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
She graduated from Washington High School in 1945. She met Vernon “Bud” Long through her best friend, Betty (Bud’s sister). They were married May 17, 1947, at First Lutheran Church while Bud was home on leave from World War II. They were blessed with three children, and after they were grown, she was Bud’s secretary in his insurance agency.

When time permitted, she loved being in her neighborhood coffee groups for many years. She also loved gardening, playing bridge, sewing, and needlework. A lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, she always helped with their annual bazaar.

She loved her family and had them all over for Sunday Supper every week, which she did into her 80’s. One of her greatest joys was watching all the grandkids grow up.

Bobbie is survived by her son-in-law, Brian Sather, Marana, AZ; son, Rick (Laura) Long, and daughter, Deb (Mike) Cota, all of Sioux Falls. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Scott (Jennifer) Sather, Dr. Michael (Joan) Sather, Dr. James Sather, Eric Sather, Sara (Jason) Wolthuizen, Tom (Karen) Cota, and Amy (Aaron) Sehr. Thirteen great-grandchildren filled her with joy as well: Naomi (Sean) Nguyen and Julia Sather; Ashley and Michael Sather, Viviana and Parker Sather, Wyatt and Lauren Wolthuizen, Hayden and Graham Cota; Adelaide, Kalista, and Marlie Jo Sehr. She also had many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, husband, Vernon; daughter, Catherine (Cathie) Sather; sister, Vivian Brandland; and her three brothers and their spouses: Howard (Della) Munce, Kenneth (Doris) Munce, and her twin brother Dick (Helen) Munce (lovingly called her womb-mate).
