Bernice D. Kjos

Bernice Dell Kjos, passed away Friday, September 11, 2026 surrounded by her loving family at the Foundation Hospice Cottage.

Bernice Dell Hofer, daughter of David D and Elsie M Hofer was born, December 8, 1933 on a farm north of Silver Lake. Bernice went to a country school, Cottonwood District 96, then to Freeman Academy and graduated in 1953.  She went to Christian Workers Institute in Sioux Falls.  She was united in marriage with Richard Kjos on August 17, 1955 at the Hutterthal Mennonite Church north of Freeman, SD.

Bernice worked at the Stockyard Café, then opened her own restaurant in West Sioux for a few years.  She then worked for the Good Samaritan as a baker.  She retired and was then a Senior Companion for 13 years.

Bernice is survived by her Children, Phyllis Flaskey, Verna Lingo, Carolene (Todd) Seitz; Brother, Dennis Hofer and Sister Gloria Schneiderman; Grandchildren, Mark Flaskey, Cory (Rachel) Flaskey, Matthew (Ashleigh) Lingo, Jordan Lingo, Ashley Seitz; Great-Grandchildren, Tyler Baatz, Allen (Kayla) Flaskey, Tate (Paige) Flaskey, Chase Flaskey, Zayne Flaskey, Randi Lingo; Great-Great Grandchildren, Braylee Flaskey, and ever-loving dear friends, Richard and Ladonna Bruflat.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; Son-in-laws, Randy Lingo, Richard Flaskey; Sister, Jane Schrader; Brothers, Elgin, Jim, Bobby and Junior Hofer; and Granddaughter-in-law, Carrie Flaskey.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Friday, September 18, 2026 at Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 6:00pm-8:00 pm Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Heritage Funeral Home with family present to greet friends.
