Chantz was born in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he lived there with his parents, Jamie and Tracie Gogolin, for a year, before they moved back to Huron, SD. Chantz graduated from Huron High School in 2011. Chantz was active throughout his high school days, participating in football, baseball, and was very passionate about wrestling. Chantz had a great love of music and started playing guitar when he was in middle school, and continued to play guitar throughout his adult life. After high school, Chantz attended Minnesota State University and majored in Information Systems, graduating in 2015. Soon after, he moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where he started his career in computer production support with different IT companies, most recently as a business intelligence analyst at Qolo.

On July 4th, 2012, Chantz met the love of his life, Melissa. The couple married on September 29, 2018, settling in Sioux Falls. Two children blessed their union: Sophie and Miles.

Chantz could best be described as extremely thoughtful, calm and loyal to his friends and family. His quick wit and contagious smile could make anyone laugh. A true gamer at heart, he loved the challenge of a good video game, with Destiny being his most favorite. Chantz was a true football fan, and the Washington Redskins, aka Commanders, were the team to hold his heart. Chantz also was a true believer in a good quality craft stout or IPA. Chantz was always on the lookout to find new breweries and support those local in Sioux Falls.

Chantz’s joy in life was increased tenfold by his two children, where he spent his days being the one true Dad that fixed everything. Chantz’s love for his children was unwavering, and unending, and it didn’t matter if it was doing puzzles, horse rides, or a dance party. Chantz loved BIG and loved wholeheartedly.

Chantz was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma cancer in May 2024, which is a rare bone cancer that is not typical in adults. Chantz immediately started chemotherapy and moved forward with treatment under the care of oncology teams at Sanford and Mayo Clinic. Chantz showed steadfast strength, determination, and perseverance during this chapter of his life. He was “C.G. Strong” and fought his battle courageously.

Chantz was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dick Oakley and great grandparents, Roney and Irene Polidori, Robert and Betty Nielsen, Hans and Loraine Moen, and Vernon and Doris Gogolin.
