The years between were filled with challenges, both physical and mental. He suffered from chronic pain from a debilitating form of arthritis and experienced the highs, lows, and stigma associated with bipolar disorder. He persevered over not just one, but three forms of compulsive behavior, achieving sobriety for 37 years, kicking cigarettes for 30 years, and maintaining a large weight loss for 15 years. His Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, May 18, 2025 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service. Chuck earned an Educational Specialist Degree from the University of Iowa and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Colorado State University. He taught English composition at various community colleges and was especially proud of helping his students gain confidence through writing.
Chuck enjoyed taking photographs, writing poetry, and spinning tales. He never met a stranger and loved to talk, sometimes to the point of discomfort. He valued his friends and family and was utterly loyal to them, tolerating their quirks and feeling grateful when they tolerated his. He was a spiritual seeker and attended the Unitarian church and practiced Soto Zen meditation through Treeleaf Online Zendo.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marjorie Remacle-Taylor of Hartford, SD; his beloved daughter, Laurel Taylor of Denver, CO; his father, Lenard Taylor of Colfax, CA; brother, Doug Taylor of Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law, Mary (Ronald) Kiger of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers-in-law, Robert (Kristi) Remacle of Howard, SD and France (Francine) Remacle of Littleton, CO; along with a host of many other relatives and friends.
