Charles “Chuck” Tanck, age 93, died peacefully in Sioux Falls on Friday, May 2, 2025, with his family by his side. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, SD.
Chuck was born on January 26, 1932, to August F. and Clara M. (Hueners) Tanck. After graduating from Flandreau High School in 1950, he began working at Northwestern Bell. He married Betty J. Bothe in December of 1951. Cathy was born to this union.
In August of 1952, Chuck was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in May of 1954, Chuck resumed his career at Northwestern Bell. In addition to working at the phone company, he and Betty started Chuck’s Furniture in Sioux Falls in 1969. When he retired from the phone company in 1986, they expanded the operations of the furniture store. Chuck and Betty operated the furniture until 2020, and made many good friends along the way.
Chuck will be remembered for being a kind person, always helpful and putting others before himself. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States to attend furniture markets and Army reunions, playing cards, and going to dinner and coffee with friends.
Chuck is survived by his daughter, Cathy, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; brother, John Tanck; sister, Rachel Conkling; and good friends, Ole and Dorothy Hamran.
