Craig Maynard Thompson, a life-long member of the Sioux Falls community, passed away on October 19, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on December 11, 1945, in Sioux Falls, SD, Craig was the son of Maynard and Agnes (Griffith) Thompson. He attended Sioux Falls public schools and graduated from Washington Senior High School in 1964.
Craig dedicated nearly four decades of his life to a career at Wellmark / Blue Cross Blue Shield, where he worked as an administrative assistant until his retirement. On December 3, 1995, he married Sandra Scheid in Sioux Falls, and together they shared many wonderful years.
Craig had a passion for travel, with cherished memories from his trips to Taiwan, the Holy Land, the United Kingdom, and Scotland. He was deeply committed to community service, actively participating in numerous organizations including the First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Unity Lodge, Sioux Falls Scottish Rite, El Riad Temple, BPO Elks #262, Sioux Falls Kiwanis West, High Twelve Masonic Service Club, and Crime Stoppers.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Thompson of Sioux Falls, SD; his sister, Jane Chapman (John) of Scottsdale, AZ; his nephew, Kurt Chapman of London, England; his niece, Elisabeth Chapman of Chicago, IL; and his brothers-in-law, Richard Scheid (Kay) of Salt Lake City, UT, and Robert Scheid (Mely) of Mexico.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Good Samaritan Luther Manor and Sanford Ava’s House for their compassionate care during Craig's final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, 3720 E Benson Rd, Sioux Falls, SD 57104 or Sanford Ava's House.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue. A committal service with Masonic Rites will take place at 11:00am on Friday at Hills of Rest Cemetery.
