Dale was born on September 25, 1945, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Earl and Emily (Nelson) Carman. He grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1963. Following graduation, Dale proudly answered the call to serve his country by entering the U.S. Marine Corps, which included a one-year deployment to Vietnam.

On March 16, 1968, Dale was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rose Marie Scholten, at St. Joseph Cathedral. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with deep companionship.

In 1967, Dale joined the Sioux Falls Fire Department, embarking on a distinguished career protecting his community. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant and honorably retired in 1997 after 30 years of service. Following his retirement from the fire department, he continued to stay active, working as a custodian at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Dale was a man of diverse interests and a dedicated community member. He loved spending time outdoors fishing alongside his wife, Rose. He also had a sharp mind and a passion for architecture, football, and playing cribbage. Dale deeply valued the brotherhood of his fellow service members and first responders; he was a member of the American Legion and the VFW, and always looked forward to catching up at the retired firefighter breakfast held on the first Monday of every month. A lifelong man of faith, Dale was baptized, confirmed, and remained a devoted member of Eastside Lutheran Church.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rose Marie Carman, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Emily Carman; his two brothers, Myron and Darryl Carman; and his sister, Orene Meyeraan.
