Darrell D. Middlen

Darrell Middlen, 56, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital. His memorial service will be 3:00 PM Monday, September 27 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls.

Darrell Dean Middlen, son of Jack and Louella (Behr) Middlen, was born May 1, 1965 in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up there and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1983.

Darrell’s last job was at US Auto Force as a driver. Truck driving was something he loved to do and was proud of. Darrell worked as on over-the-road driver at points, and many years ago for Concrete Materials.

Darrell loved cars and racing- drag racing, sprint car racing, etc. He often talked about going to the dirt track races with his dad, and also his childhood neighbors, the Haugan family, who were heavily involved with dirt track racing. Darrell spent a lot of time hanging out at the Haugan’s garage around the race cars. He and his friend, Adam Mehlhaff, spent many weekends at Thunder Valley Dragways which made great memories for both of them. Darrell was a jeans and t-shirt guy. If a shirt had to have buttons on it, he had no time for it!

Darrell accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior last year, and was proud of that. He was quick with a joke and loved to laugh with his friends.

Grateful for having shared Darrell’s life are many relatives and friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Louella. He talked about his mom and dad all the time and missed them every day.
