Diana Mae Irish went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the age of 91. Diana was born in Sioux Falls, SD on June 9, 1932, to Marlen Basel and Mae McKeon. Diana received her GED from Washington Senior High School in Sioux Falls, SD. Diana Basel married James Irish on October 18, 1952, at First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, SD.
Diana worked for Tempo Department store in the receiving department from the beginning to the closure of the store. Diana and James were avid collectors of antiques. Diana’s focus was on the restoration of furniture. As business owners of Irish’s Garage Antiques, they were well known and respected in Sioux Falls and in many other states. Diana was also an avid baker. She baked bread and a three-layer chocolate cake with white frosting every week. Diana was famous for her frosted sugar cookies, peanut brittle, and a variety of sweet breads. On Sunday, they walked the family to church dressed in their Sunday best.
Grateful to have shared her life with James for 67 years until his death, her children Alan Irish of Sioux Falls, SD, daughter Linda Coon & husband Mike of Houston, TX, and daughter Michele Vriesman & husband Todd of Lakewood, CO.; grandchildren Victoria Honan & husband Mark of Kingwood, TX, Jesse Thomas of Kingwood, TX, Lisa Coon of Sioux Falls, SD, Kyle Vriesman of Lakewood, CO, Andrew Vriesman & wife Brittany of Lakewood, CO, Ashley Rhodes & husband Jacob of Sioux Falls, SD, Laura Phillips & husband Chris of Lakewood, CO, and Adam Irish of Sioux Falls, SD; and great-grandchildren Jaymeson, Torin, Berkleigh, Maezen, Kalo, and another female and male due early 2024.
Celebration of Life will be held at Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Humble, TX. The date and time to be announced at a later time. Graveside services will be held in the summer of 2024, at Hills of Rest in Sioux Falls, SD.
