Dora Zamora

Dora Daysi Zamora Caceres, age 51, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, longtime employee with Smithfield Foods Incorporated (formerly John Morrell and Company), died on January 12, 2025 at Avera McKennan Hospital Intensive Care Unit, with her family by her side.

Dora Daysi Zamora Caceres was born on June 21, 1973, in Sonsonate, El Salvador, to Miguel Angel Caceres Hernandez and Maria Argelia Zamora. She spent her childhood in El Salvador with her father and grandfather, before moving to the United States to live with her mother Argelia, who moved to the US four years prior, between 1983-1984 with her brother Angel. In the US, she attended public elementary and middle school, and went to Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, California for two years before entering the workforce around 1990 at the local Yoshinoya fast food chain for around seven years. In Los Angeles she met her lifelong partner Rolando Arturo Najera, who would live with her and support her.

After meeting her partner in Los Angeles and becoming loving parents to two children, they all moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to start a fresh life in a less crowded city. In 1998, she began her lifelong career with Smithfield Foods (formerly John Morrell and Company).

On February 3, 2001, she was united in marriage with Rolando Arturo Najera in Sioux Falls. At first the couple and the children lived in an apartment, but after hearing that a third child was on the way, they purchased their current home on 45th Street, and soon completed their family with a third child. She worked at Smithfield Foods Incorporated for 27 years, having gotten two plaques for working there for 20 and 25 years and a massage machine and an indoor tabletop griddle/grill combo for her recognition of service.

Dora wasn’t active in many groups, but she always said that Smithfield Foods was like a second home to her. She enjoyed doing her job and did her best to come into work everyday she could.

Dora enjoyed doing many things, most of which involved her family. She loved cooking for her family and being the host of the outdoor cookouts in the summer and being outdoors, and hosting parties for every holiday and birthday she could for family and friends to party and enjoy themselves. She loved watching Netflix, Paramount, and Youtube in her free time. Often on the weekends she would go hang out with friends after work to relax after the work week. She loved planning trips back to Los Angeles to visit her extended family, and most importantly, she loved being around her immediate family. She loved shopping a lot with her extended family, and even shopped by herself even if she didn’t purchase anything, simply for the fun of going out and looking at the clothes and fashion items that were available at the time.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Rolando Sr., sons Rolando Jr., and Ivan, daughter Heather (all from Sioux Falls, SD), mother Argelia, brothers Rigo and Angel (all from Los Angeles, California), nephew Rodrigo, nieces, Tanya and Gladys, son-in-law Chris, daughter-in-law Kimberly, and four grandchildren (all from Sioux Falls, South Dakota).

Memorials and gifts made should be directed to the family, 5301 W 45th St., Sioux Falls, SD, 57106.
