Doreen E. Riley, age 101, of Sioux Falls passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in her home at Prairie Creek Lodge. Her Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday evening, following the visitation. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 24, 2026, in the Hills of Rest Cemetery.
Doreen Elizabeth Boelter was born February 25, 1925, in Ward, South Dakota, the daughter of Ervin M. Boelter and Minnie Lange Boelter. She grew up in Ward, South Dakota and moved with her family to Sioux Falls in 1931, attending Zion Lutheran grade school and graduating from Washington High School.
She was joined in marriage to Vernon Eugene Riley in Luverne, Minnesota, on February 17, 1945. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, where she was employed at John Morrell, and later owned the Riley Apartments. She was a longtime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Doreen was a wonderful homemaker, who enjoyed baking, needlepoint, embroidery and crocheting.
She and Vernon enjoyed Florida winters, traveling to see car races, and enjoying country music in Branson, Missouri.
Grateful for sharing her life are her 6 nieces and nephews, Judy Vevang, Patricia Boelter, Dr. Terry (Jill) Boelter, Sharee Larsen, Sue Sommers and Rev. Randy Boelter, and a host of great-nephews and great-nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vernon in 1996, by her parents, 4 brothers: Kenneth, Leslie, Clifford and Lowell Boelter, her sisters-in-law: Ellen, Loretta, Evelyn, Frances and Dorothy Boelter, her nephew: James Boelter and her niece: Mary Dubro.
She is also remembered by her friends and staff members at Prairie Creek Lodge and her caregivers from Interim Healthcare and AseraCare. She is also remembered by her special friends, Mark and Barb Sivertson.
