Dorothy Eide, 100, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, while surrounded by attentive and loving care at Dougherty Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. Following the service, the family warmly invites all who attend to remain for a light lunch and time of fellowship.
Dorothy was born on June 24, 1925, in Grygla, Minnesota, to Albert and Myrna Miller. She attended high school in Goodridge and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, graduating in 1943. After graduation, she spent several years working in Minneapolis.
She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Vern Eide, in 1947 in Thief River Falls.
Dorothy lived a long, full life—and at the remarkable age of 100, she often joked that she had outlived nearly everyone. Throughout her life she remained devoted to her three children, Bruce Eide, Lisa (Bill) Coughlin, and Brian (Audra) Eide.
She was also the proud grandmother of five fine grandsons—Michael (Valerie), Scott (Jessica), Eric, Brandon (Ariel), and Paul (Amanda)—and she was wildly proud of each and every one of them. Dorothy was also blessed with a beloved great-grandson, William, and two beautiful great-granddaughters, Ella and Evy, who brought her great joy.
In celebration of Dorothy’s 100th birthday, Governor Larry Rhoden of the State of South Dakota proclaimed June 24, 2025, as “Dorothy Eide Day,” a fitting tribute to a woman whose life spanned a century of love, family, and quiet strength.
Memorials may be directed to Feeding South Dakota or Dougherty Hospice House, in gratitude for the care and compassion shown to Dorothy and her family.
