Dorothy Jane Lee, daughter of Lyle and Rosena (Hahn) Lee was born June 22, 1933, near Roswell, South Dakota on the family farm. As the oldest child she would spend week days during the school year at her grandparent’s home in Howard and be back helping on the farm every weekend. She graduated from Howard High School in 1951. Directly following she earned her two-year teaching degree from Augustana. Years later she would return to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in 1969. On December 29, 1969, she was united in marriage to Jon Voight in Sioux Falls. She dedicated 36 years of teaching and guiding children, followed by five years of substitute teaching and mentoring. Her teaching career started in Astoria, South Dakota and continued in Sioux Falls at Cleveland for a year, Hawthorne for 20 years, and Mark Twain for 14 years.
Dorothy and Jon loved to travel and spent 24 summers at their lake cabin on Blanche Lake in Minnesota and several years where they would spend the month of March in Florida and Arizona. Dorothy had a knack for excelling at new hobbies she would take up over the years. She was an accomplished pianist, artist and golfer (even earning a Hole-In-One). She took up running when she was in her 50’s.
