Dorothy M. Powell

 

Dorothy Powell, a witty and spirited woman, who was known for her smart and generous nature, passed away on January 28th, 2026. Dorothy was born on February 6th, 1929, in Sioux Falls, SD, and spent the majority of her adult life in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska. Her humor and candidness made her an unforgettable figure among her family and friends. Dorothy was a woman of many talents and interests. She loved Scrabble, reading, and card games. With her sharp intellect, she was often the unbeatable champion in any Scrabble game, while her love for reading made her a well of knowledge and wisdom. Dorothy had a deep appreciation for art and literature. Dorothy was a woman who found joy in the simple things in life. She was exceptionally tidy, believing that everything had its place. She was married to Merrill Powell on November 23rd, 1974, at Offutt Air Force Base Chapel, a day she held dear to her heart. Above all, Dorothy cherished her relationships with family and friends. She had an innate ability to make those around her feel loved and important, a quality that will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Dorothy is survived by her nieces and nephew, Carolyn Carlson, Marlene (Steve) Johnson, Sandra (Rich) Ellenbogen, Alan (Carol) Robertson; cousins, Donna, Ruth; close friends, Jill Pauley, Michela Bahensky, Jeff (Cathy) Jensen, many great nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Dumke; and her beloved husband, Merrill Powell; brother, Hollis (Delpha) Dumke, sister, Florence (Robert) Robertson Dorothy's imprint on this world was significant, and her spirit will continue to live on through the memories and stories shared by those who loved her.
