Eris K. Olson

Eris Kathryn Olson, age 95, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Oahe Manor in Gettysburg, SD.  Private services have been held at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.

Eris was born June 7, 1929 to Herbert and Olga Kutter of New Effington, SD. She was raised by her parents and grandparents. She graduated from high school in New Effington in 1947 and continued her education at Northern State College, where she received her teaching certificate, then went on to teach at a "country school."

Eris moved to Sisseton, SD in 1950 and began working at the courthouse. While working she met her future husband Marsh, who was the county sheriff at the time. When Marsh's term was over Mr. & Mrs. Olson moved to Rosholt, SD, where they bought and operated the Midway Cafe. Marsh decided to go into Air Traffic Control, so they moved first to Russell, KS, Evansville, IN, and then Fargo, ND.  Since one job wasn't enough, they bought Stavig's Store in Rosholt, changed the name to Olson's General Store.  Eventually they retired and moved to Sioux Falls, SD where all four of their children were.

Eris was involved in clubs such Homemakers, Eastern Star, and ELCW. She spent many years teaching Sunday School and was a member of St. John American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. She enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing, and reading. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Eris was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter Evelyn Sharpe, son Greg, and her brothers Dean, Wayne, Ronald, and Richard Kutter.  She is survived by her son Jim E. Olson and daughter, Marsha Hakenson; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Kutter and Kenneth (Harriette) Kutter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
