Eugene Robinson, 77, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025 at Symphony Pointe in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2025, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls.
Eugene Roy Robinson was born on June 15, 1947, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Arthur Kent Robinson and Hazelle (Stockwell) Robinson. He grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1965.
After high school he moved to Renton, Washington, to work for Boeing Aircraft until he was drafted into the U.S. Army August 4, 1966. While in the Army, Gene was stationed in San Francisco, California as a military policeman until his discharge on August 3, 1968. Gene then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he worked at Onan’s Manufacturing.
In 1971, Gene decided to use the GI Bill and go to college at USD in Vermillion. While at USD he met Carol Wetrosky. Carol got a teaching job in Papillion, Nebraska. Gene then transferred to UNO in Omaha. Carol and Gene were married at Hilltop Methodist Church in Sioux Falls on September 9, 1972. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from UNO, Carol and Gene moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where Gene attended UNL College of Law and received his Juris Doctorate degree. He has been a long-time member of both the South Dakota and Nebraska Bar Associations.
Following law school, Gene worked for the Nebraska State Patrol as a legal counsel in Lincoln, and then North Platte, Nebraska. Gene wanted to move back to Sioux Falls and work in his own private law practice. So, in the fall of 1979, Gene and Carol moved back to Sioux Falls and Gene opened his own law office. Gene practiced law in Sioux Falls until his retirement in 2020 except for a few years in 1988 to 1991 when the family bought and ran a deep-sea marina, convenience store and restaurant lounge at Fort Morgan, Alabama.
Gene always loved to hunt, especially goose hunting as well as hunting pheasants, deer, and ducks. He also enjoyed fishing and camping.
After his retirement, Gene and Carol moved to Elkhorn, Nebraska to be near their daughter and her family.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law Anna and John Wineinger.
Gene is survived by his wife Carol Robinson, Elkhorn, Nebraska; their daughter, Michelle (Ryan) Horst and their four sons, Gunnar, Daxton, Finley, and Enzo of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Gene’s son, Kenneth (Jeanette) Olive and their two daughters, Amanda Olive and Samantha (Grant) Gibbard of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Gene’s brother, Lambert (Jeri) Robinson of Sioux Falls; his sister, Rosemary (Tom) Savage of Brandon, South Dakota; his sisters-in-law, Sharon Robinson of Sioux Falls and Mary Frances (Harlan) Feddersen of Sioux City, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
