Frances "Ione" Anderson was born on May 21, 1934 in Berthold, ND to Selmer and Mabel (Miller) Simonson. She was raised on a farm and received her education in Ward County, ND, graduating from Makoti High School in 1952. Ione continued her education at the Wahpeton School of Practical Nursing in Wahpeton, ND and became licensed as an LPN. United in marriage to Kenneth Anderson on July 31, 1955, Ione and Ken were happily married for almost 70 years. The couple made their home together in various locations following Ken's career with IBM. They lived in Milwaukee, WI for many years and were blessed with son Paul, daughter Beverly, and son Steve. The couple moved to Sioux Falls in 1972 where Ione began working for Luther Manor Nursing Home as an LPN. She loved her work at Luther Manor giving 34 years to the care of others. In their retirement years, they wintered in Mesa, AZ, but every spring upon her return to Sioux Falls, Ione would answer the request from Luther Manor to work part time. Ione was a faithful member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. She participated as a leader of her children's Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. She enjoyed cross-stitching and made a "praying hands" cross stitch for each of her three children and for her five grandchildren. A wonderful cook, Ione was known for her delicious holiday dinners, blueberry dessert, lefse, and lemon meringue and pumpkin pies. Each Christmas, she would bake dozens of cookies for her grandchildren so that they would each have their favorite when they came to visit. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Ken, her three children Paul Anderson (Shareen), Greeley, CO, Beverly Salmonson (Rick), Chippewa Falls, WI, and Steve Anderson, Sioux Falls, SD; five grandchildren, Aimee Anderson, Emilee Anderson-Barta (Camaron), Ashley Salmonson, Kyle Salmonson, Cheryl DuCharme (Brett) and one great granddaughter, Greta DuCharme; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Selmer and Mabel Simonson; one sister Donna Deutsch, and two brothers, DeWayne Simonson and Dale Simonson.
