James (Jim) Henry Sievers, age 84, died December 23, 2024, at home under hospice care, with his wife by his side.
Jim was born on August 29, 1940, in Bridgewater, SD to Charles and Jean Sievers. He attended Bridgewater High School and received many awards for track and field. He married Janice Decker in 1960 in Emery, SD. They lived in Yankton, SD for 6 years, then resided in Sioux Falls with their three children. Jim was a Mechanical Engineer for the Bell Telephone Company for 38 years.
Family was Jim’s greatest joy in life. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandkids’ ball games, listening to 60’s and 70’s music, and especially getting together with family and reminiscing about the good times we shared.
Watching golf and football with his wife by his side was a staple in their routine. They wintered in Texas and Arizona for many years and loved when their children and grandchildren would fly down to visit them.
Jim was always eager to lend a helping hand, whether at the church or for any friend or neighbor in need. He was known for his willingness to play catch or hit fly balls with any neighborhood kid that would happen to show up at his door and asked if he could come out and play ball. Searching for golf balls and visiting the Falls with his grandchildren were some of his very favorite past times.
Anyone who knew Jim knows what a kind and generous man he was and will cherish his memory forever,
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 64 years, Janice Sievers, children, Joy (Joel) Wegner, Jill Lorang, and Jeffry Sievers (Leslie Sweetland); six grandchildren, Jeana (Cole) Nelson, Nathan Lorang, Zachary Lorang, Derek (Marissa) Sievers, Nicholas Lorang, and Marissa Sievers; and one great-grandson, Everett James Nelson; two sisters, Linda (Tom) Jones and Darla (Ron) Eneboe; two brothers, Ralph (Charlotte) Sievers and Larry (Julie) Sievers; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Sievers, and Maleda Moross (Ron).
