Sioux Falls, SD, ~ Janet Lou (Petrik) Ackerman, age 87, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, October 13, 2025 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Her family will be present to greet friends for visitation on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, SD from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. A Liturgical Wake Service will follow her visitation at 6:00 PM on Sunday.
Janet Lou Petrik was born March 6, 1938 to Bill (William) and Mabel Petrik in Wagner, SD. Janet grew up in Tyndall, SD where she attended school and was an parishioner at St. Leo's Catholic Church. After graduating from Tyndall High School, she attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Yankton, SD for two years.
Janet was united in marriage with Jerald “Jerry” Allan Ackerman on October 25, 1958 in Tyndall, SD. They moved to Omaha where they lived for a year. Janet worked at St. Joseph Hospital while there. The couple then made their home Sioux Falls, SD. Janet and Jerry were blessed with four children, Julie, Troy, Lisa and Brian. Janet worked in her home and was an active member in PTA. She was a faithful parishioner at St. Therese Catholic Church.
Janet enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially at their Brant Lake Cabin. She also enjoyed snowmobiling and riding 4-wheelers with her family, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Jerry Ackerman, Sioux Falls, SD; four children, Julie (John) Hajek, Lynch, NE, Troy (Connie) Ackerman, Sioux Falls, SD, Lisa (Wayne) Rasmussen, St. Edward, NE and Brian (Jody) Ackerman, Chester, SD; ten grandchildren, Allison Hajek, O’Neill, NE, Amelia (Eric) Ackerman Burke, Lake Odessa, MI, Cole (special friend, Olivia) Ackerman, Wyoming, MI, Tony Ackerman, Wyoming, MI, Devon (Bryce) Olson, Aurora, NE, Payton (Brandon) Miller, Albion, NE, Sydney (Tyler) Dula, Sioux Falls, SD, Keenan Rasmussen, Omaha, NE, Abby (Bailey) Thompson, O’Neill, NE and Trevor Rasmussen, St. Edward, NE; nine great-grandchildren, Colby, Collins, Theodore, Hollis, Everett, Knox, Quinn, Huxley and Kallahan; one brother-in-law, Ron (Karen) Mielke of Sioux Falls, SD; numerous other relatives and friends.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Mabel Petrik; sister, Charlotte Mielke; infant brother, Frank Petrik; and granddaughter-in-law, Kassandra Ackerman.
