Janice E. Drewes

Janice E. Drewes, 89, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully August 29, 2025. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. followed by her funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, 3408 E 10th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57103. She will be laid to rest at Hills of Rest following the funeral service.

Janice Elaine Drewes was born January 29th, 1936, to Chester and Helen (Mehren) Hotchkin in Ramona, SD. She spent her childhood in Chester, growing up on the family farm near Madison SD.  She graduated from Chester High School, Class of 1954. Upon graduating, she married the love of her life, Lloyd Drewes, in Flandreau, SD on July 3rd, 1954. Together, they moved to Sioux Falls the same year to start a family. Janice worked at Kresge Dime Store and Coffitt’s Café for several years, before working as a bartender at several local bars. Many customers became familiar with seeing her at Old Pheasant Bar, Little Coalinga Bar, and then Smoe’s Bar before she officially retired in 1987. In her down time, she enjoyed quilting and embroidering many intricate designs. She loved her family and watching her grandsons grow.

Grateful in sharing her life is her children, Linda (Tom) Block and Troy Drewes; her grandsons, Bradley Drewes and Jordan Block; and her sister, Bernice Schuldt.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Drewes; her parents; a grandson, Benjamin Block; her siblings, Clifford (JoAnn) Hotchkin, Orville (Ione) Hotchkin, and JoAnn O’Meara; and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Schuldt.
