She grew up on a farm near Freeman, SD where she received her elementary education in a one-room school house.  She went on to Freeman Academy High School.  After high school, she attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, SD.

On June 27, 1948, she was united in marriage with Glen E. Hansen at the Salem Zion Mennonite Church near Freeman, SD.  The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD.  Jaraine was a stay-at-home mom until 1982, when she went to work at a childcare center in Sioux Valley Hospital for 9 years. Jaraine was a member of First Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed helping with senior luncheons and assembling Saturday and Sunday bulletins.  She also embroidered a cross on many baptismal towels.  Jaraine was a skilled seamstress and sewed many outfits for herself and her four daughters.  Many fun times were spent square dancing with Glen.  Jaraine and Glen took several trips and traveled the world.  Jaraine always loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Grateful for sharing her life are her four daughters, Roslyn Myers (Kent), Peggy Wilgers (Dale), Cindy O’Connor (Rick) and Shirley Darnell (Michael); seven grandchildren – Julie, Kristi, Brian, Stacie, Adam, Eric, Michelle; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers; and several nieces and nephews.
