JoAnn C. Hanssen

JoAnn C. Hanssen, age 86, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in Estelline, SD. She was born on September 15, 1938, to Wallace and Lois Boulware in Mitchell, SD.

Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM at Miller Funeral Home Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Ave. Burial will take place at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Navigators ministry.

JoAnn married Chuck Hanssen on January 5, 1955. To this union, three sons were born, Randy, Steve, and Kevin. They lost Steve to cancer in 2015. This was the biggest heartbreak of their lives.

JoAnn decided to return to school to attain her goal of working in an office. JoAnn worked as a bookkeeper/payroll specialist for Data, Inc. and Starmark, a company she especially enjoyed working for.

After retiring, JoAnn developed a passion for reading and making jewelry. She also discovered her love for painting, displaying her artwork throughout her home and gifting many pieces to her family to enjoy. Additionally, JoAnn enjoyed attending exercise classes and participating in line dancing. She was actively involved in the Community Reformed Church.

JoAnn is survived by the love of her life, Chuck Hanssen; sons, Randy (Sandy) Hanssen, and Kevin Hanssen; daughter-in-law, Deb Hanssen; sister, Judy (Roger) Sutch; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marlys; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Steve Hanssen, grandparents, niece, Diane, three brothers-in-law, Milton, Calvin, and Delayne, and two sisters-in-law, Geraldine and Doreen.
