John Aaron VandenBrink was born on October 3, 1977, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Dennis and Loretta (Fuerstenberg) VandenBrink. John graduated from West Central High School in 1996 and went on to earn a degree in Electrical Construction from Mitchell Vo-Tech in 1998, and became a journeyman electrician.John’s career began as an employee of Howe Electric in Tea, SD, where he worked for 19 years before joining American Electric in Harrisburg, S.D. John enjoyed traveling the state of SD and working on the electrical portion of new installs and maintenance on commercial and state DOT gas pumps.
John loved both water and ice fishing, camping, and relaxing with friends around a campfire. He participated in league trap shooting at the Crooks Gun Club and enjoyed playing poker with the guys on Thursday nights. John was a gentle, patient, kind, and warm-hearted man. He never married or had children of his own, but children loved him even though he never let them win at games. John wore t-shirts with a message, such as ‘Of course I talk to myself, sometimes I need expert advice’. The truest of all is the t-shirt he now wears... Admit it, life would be boring without me.
John is survived by his parents Dennis and Loretta VandenBrink, his brother Craig (Wendy) VandenBrink, nieces, Jessica (Hunter) Antrobus and their soon to be born son, Nicole (fiancé Nash Gough) VandenBrink, nephew, Wyatt VandenBrink, numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and a great group of friends.
John is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ceel and Nadine VandenBrink, and Ralph and Leona Fuerstenberg, his aunt, Mary Ann Bieber, and his uncles, Pete Ver Meer, Roger Siebenahler, and Mike Small.
