Joyce Wenzel

Joyce Wenzel, 98, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.  Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 9, 2025, at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 10, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.  

Joyce Burfeindt, daughter of Richard and Jennie (Johnson) Burfeindt was born November 7, 1926, in Avon, South Dakota.  She graduated from Avon High School with the class of 1946.  Joyce was united in marriage to Wallace Wenzel on January 15, 1955, and have been blessed with 70 years of marriage and two children.  She dedicated 30 years of service to John Morrell and Co. before retiring in 1983.  Joyce and Wallace have been longtime members of Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.  Joyce loved taking care of her many pets, especially her beloved Siberian Husky, Tundra.  In her free time, she enjoyed tending to her flower garden and spending time with family.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 70 years, Wallace Wenzel of Sioux Falls; son, Mike (Kimberly) Wenzel of Sioux Falls; granddaughters, Anna (Shelby) Melillo of Sioux Falls, Morgan Wenzel of Sioux Falls, Megan Zacher of Sioux Falls, and Autumn (Rusty) Dammann of Mitchell, SD; great grandchildren, Carson, Nixon, Ella, Oakley, Bexley, and Griffin; and a host of extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Jennie; son, Brian Wenzel; brothers, Glen, Wallace, Albert, Verdell, Duane, and Lawrence Burfeindt; sisters, Margaret Kranz, Hazel Winckler, and Ruby Miller.
