Larry Duane Wallenstein, 78, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, June 2, 2025, in Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls. His family will be present to greet friends for visitation from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 8, 2025 also at the funeral home.
Larry Duane Wallenstein, first born of 11 children, of Ernest and Louise (Hentges) Wallenstein was born October 19, 1946, in Sioux Falls, SD. Larry grew up in Sioux Falls and enjoyed many years with friends, neighbors, and his 10 siblings. He graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1964. Following high school, Larry enlisted into the United States Navy. Larry received his honorable discharge in 1968. Larry returned to Sioux Falls, and began working first at Fenn’s Ice Cream, then spending over 11 years working at John Morrell and Company, before finding his career in the trucking industry as a dispatcher, spending over 25 years at American Freight, K&J Trucking and Thompson Brothers Trucking before his retirement.
Larry enjoyed classic cars, listening to the music of the late 1950’s and 1960, cheering on the LA Dodgers, and especially fishing for walleyes. Larry and his brother, Ron competed in many area fishing tournaments throughout the years.
Larry is survived by his children, Sheila (Wade) Heesch and Thomas Wallenstein; two grandchildren Lauren (Alex) Schriever and Jerod Myott; two great-grandchildren; six siblings, Marilyn (Dale) Jensen, Ron Wallenstein, Dianne (Greg) Rerick, Karen Wallenstein, Gordon Wallenstein, and Vicki (Jeff) Berg who all live in Sioux Falls and the surrounding area; brothers-in-law, Dave Erickson, Randy Monahan and Randy Reichelt; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Louise; three sisters, Barbara Reichelt, Betty Erickson and Linda Monahan; brother, Charles "Chuck" Wallenstein; sister-in-law, Kari Wallenstein
