Laura was born May 21, 1950, in Luverne, MN, the daughter of Lloyal and Joyce (Heronimus) Thompson. The family lived in Luverne, MN, Chamberlain, SD, and Sioux Falls, SD, where Laura graduated Class of 69 from Lincoln Senior High.
In 1971 Laura married Mike Broderdorf; they lived in Vermillion, SD. After her divorce from Mike in 1978, Laura returned to Sioux Falls. She worked at Shopko, Austad’s, Hutchinson Technology, Northwestern Bell, Qwest, Century Link, and Total Quality Maintenance.
In 2007 Laura needed someone to watch her dog Sam. She met the love of her life, Patty Steuck, of Jane of All Trades, in acquiring a sitter for Sam. On May 24, 2008, Laura and Patty were married in Jacksonville, FL.
Laura had a big heart, she loved helping people and she loved dogs. She enjoyed camping, motorcycling, traveling, eating out, antiquing, sailing with Sam, and shopping at thrift stores. Her travels took her to Hawaii, no less than three times, one time with her mom. She motorcycled several times to Sturgis, SD, and northern Minnesota. The motorcycle she loved the most to ride was the Polaris Slingshot. She loved the outdoors. She also enjoyed time with family, especially around the campfire and grilling, food always tasted better with family. Laura was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Green Bay Packers (but we won’t hold that against her).
Laura was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her wife, Patty of Renner, SD; step-son Tyler (Krista) Steuck of Sioux Falls, SD; step grandchildren TJ and Kya Steuck of Sioux Falls, SD; sister Dawn (Mike) Hanson of Waycross, GA; nephew Adam Hanson of Waycross, GA and great nephews Aaron and Michael Hanson of Waycross, GA; niece Heather (Branden) Taylor of Waycross, GA; great nieces Mavis and MacKenzy Taylor of Waycross, GA; Aunt Lonell Wills of Menomonie, WI; and Uncle Bud Heronimus of Minnesota, and several cousins and a dear friend, Telia (Brad) Mock of Sioux Falls, SD.
Laura’s family would like to extend sincere thanks to Avera@Home Hospice team: Ashley RN Case Manager, Rachael RN visit nurse, Jill Social Worker and Chaplain Mollie. A special thanks to team member Mary from Brookings for working the weekend.
