LeRoy J. Schaeffer

 

 

LeRoy J. Schaeffer, age 90, of Sioux Falls and previously from Menno, SD died Sunday, October 13, 2024 at his home in Sioux Falls surrounded by his family. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 17th at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 16th at George Boom Funeral Home & On- Site Crematory. Burial will be in Hills of Rest Cemetery.

LeRoy was born June 23, 1934 in Menno, SD to Henry and Emma (Bender) Schaeffer. He attended grade school in Olivet, SD and graduated from Menno High School in 1952. He was blessed with five children from a previous marriage. LeRoy worked at Menno Lumberyard as yard manager from 1961 – 1985. He then started working for Scott Lumber in Sioux Falls before starting his own woodworking business, Lee’s Woods in 1988. His sons, Kevin and Tad joined him in 1991. LeRoy retired in 2005.

LeRoy married the love of his life, Nancy (Grevlos-Forrette) on December 13, 1980 after meeting her at the Solo Parents Club in Sioux Falls in April of 1980. They moved from Menno, SD to Sioux Falls in March of 1985.

LeRoy was a deacon at the Salem Reformed Church in Menno where he sang in the men’s quartet. He then joined the Wildflower Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was also a volunteer fireman and was active in the Menno Community Club.

LeRoy and Nancy enjoyed traveling with their craft business to CO, MN, ND and SD. The couple also loved camping at the Hart Ranch, playing cards and games, along with getting together with family and friends.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Nancy; sons, Kevin, Mike and Tad; daughter, Theresa (Brian) Jameson; step-children, Julie (Dick) Schulte, Jane (Sam) Kuhn, Janet (Joey) Rokusek and Jackie (Don) Bietz; sister, Arlene Haase; son-in-law, Terry Schuldt; 7 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 17 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deb Schuldt; granddaughter, Christina Schuldt; brothers, Raymond, Walter, Edgar, Ervin and Ted; sisters, Olinda, Augusta, Alitha, Clara and Frieda.
