Les was born on March 14, 1945, in Lennox, South Dakota, to Oscar and Annetta “Nettie” (Buus) Ramstad. He grew up on a farm near Worthing, South Dakota, and attended a country school for the first eight years of his education. He later graduated from Harrisburg High School.

On April 24, 1971, Les was united in marriage to Mary Litterick. They made their home in Worthing for the first 31 years of their marriage before moving to Sioux Falls in 2002.

Les had worked at many places before finding a career destination at UPS as a semi driver. He worked for UPS for 27 years before retiring in 2002.

Les had many passions and hobbies throughout his life. A lifelong outdoorsman, he began hunting at an early age, starting with a BB gun in pursuit of pigeons and rabbits after school. Over the years, his love for the sport grew, leading to annual trips to the Black Hills for deer and elk hunts. One of his most memorable adventures came in 2019 when he traveled to Russia to hunt moose.

Les also had a love for speed. He enjoyed drag racing his 1961 Corvette at local speedways alongside his good friend, Terry. As a family, they spent many cherished weekends camping and boating. After their daughter Kristi left for college, Les and Mary spent the next 30 years fishing the Missouri River and camping at Wynia campground.

Les also enjoyed all of the trips and vacations he had with the family, including Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Florida, Europe, and many other destinations.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mary; daughter, Kristi (Mike) Majumdar; and grandchildren, Anja and Ayden. He is also survived by his siblings: Ray (Rose) Ramstad of Sioux Falls, Janet Oberg of Renner, and Joann (Arlyn) Fossum of Canton; along with many other relatives and dear friends.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Annetta (Buus) Ramstad; brother, Verlyn Ramstad; and infant sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
