Liam Lloyd Sorensen was born on December 12, 2001 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina to Cameron and Nicole (Billet) Sorensen. His family decided to return home to Sioux Falls, SD later that year to be closer to family while Liam was growing up. Liam received his education at John Harris elementary, Patrick Henry Middle School and Bishop O’Gorman High School, graduating with the class of 2020. Liam continued his education at Dordt University graduating in December of 2024. Liam's next step in his education was to attend Graduate School at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.
Liam developed a love of sports at an early age, from playing travel baseball, basketball and strapping on his first football helmet in the third grade. Liam spent nearly every day honing his athletic skills for the betterment of his teams. He loved competing but he also cherished the close friendships that he made. In Liam's eyes, his teammates became like brother's. He was fortunate to have been mentored by amazing coaches starting in kindergarten. While in High School he competed in baseball, powerlifting and football. He helped the O’Gorman Knights win the South Dakota State Football Championship in 2019.
Liam’s dedication, strength, and strong work ethic led him to an academic and football scholarship at Dordt University in 2020, playing football for the Defenders for 5 seasons. As a sophomore, Liam was blessed to find his best friend/partner in Rachel Smith Luna and have been inseparable ever since. A special time for them was when Liam and Rachel were able to travel to Columbia to visit Rachel’s family.
In addition to the above, Liam enjoyed playing with his dogs, playing golf with his family, traveling; especially the family vacations to Mexico, cheering on the North Carolina Tarheels, and keeping up with his former teammates and friends. Above all, he loved his family and friends. Liam was a loving son, grandson, partner, nephew, teammate and friend that will be greatly missed.
Grateful for having shared his life are his parents, Cameron and Nicole Sorensen, Sioux Falls, SD; paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Helen Sorensen, South Sioux City, NE; maternal grandmother, Penny Meyers, Sioux Falls, SD; aunt, Kristen Sorensen, Sioux Falls, SD; his girlfriend, Rachel Smith Luna, Omaha, NE; very large extended family (football and baseball teammates and their families) and many friends.
Liam is preceded in death by his grandfather, Earl “Orley” Meyers; and two uncles, Colin Sorensen and Stacey Eichstadt.
Though his time with us was far too short, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his kindness and passion. Liam’s final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.
