Linell Ruth Patchin

Linell Ruth Patchin, age 81, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026 in Sioux Falls, SD. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 6, 2026 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls.

Linell was born on January 17, 1945 in Rupert, Idaho. She graduated from Miller High School and received her Master’s Degree in English from Northern State University. Linell would later teach English for more than 34 years including a time in education on Guam. Most recently, she enjoyed living in Sioux Falls, SD at Ponderosa Lodge. Linell was a world traveler as she visited numerous countries throughout her life and when she wasn’t off on a new adventure, she filled her time reading, listening to music, crocheting doll clothes and blankets, and watching movies. Many would be surprised to know that Linell had a large collection of panda keepsakes that she gathered over the years. She will be dearly missed by her close family and friends.

Grateful for having shared her life are her dear nieces, Tracy (Elwin) Detzler of Cottage Grove, MN and Kristy (Dave) Babcock of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Carol (Daryl) Jung of New England, ND; step daughter, Nikki (Tim) Head of Joplin, MO; and many relatives and friends.

Linell was preceded in death by her son, Mario Estal; husband, Jack Patchin; parents, Edgar and Avis (Lyngen) Colgrove; sisters, Roberta Ketterling and Linda Aman; and brother, Larry Colgrove.
