Lois E. Hanssen

Lois Elaine Hanssen, age 90, of Sioux Falls, passed away, Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Dow Rummel Village, Sioux Falls. Her Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 27th at the George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory. Burial will be in the Hills of Rest Cemetery. 

Visitation with family present will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 PM, Thursday, June 26th, at the George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory.

Lois Elaine Hanssen, daughter of Harry and Ruth {Gilmore} Morrill was born in Madison, South Dakota on April 7, 1935. She grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from Madison High School in 1953.

Lois met Ervin Edward Hanssen in 1949. They married on December 12, 1953 in Mitchell, SD. After his two years of military service, they moved from Fort Benning, GA to Sioux Falls, SD in 1959, having added two sons, Arlen in (1957) and Kelvin (1958).

She was employed as a medical secretary at the Donahue Clinic and subsequently at Orthopaedic Associates. They welcomed two more sons, Kim (1961) and Keith (1963). As she had no daughters, she was delighted with her many granddaughters and was always available to care for them. Her hobbies included teaching ceramics, cooking, quilting, and reading.

She quietly passed away on June 21, 2025 at the Dow Rummel facility in Sioux Falls and greatly appreciated the care she had received there.

Grateful for sharing her life are her brother Wendell Morrill (Judy) Bozeman, Montana; four sons, Arlen Hanssen (Mary), Rochester, MN; Kelvin Hanssen (Michelle) Sioux Falls, SD; Kim Hanssen, Sioux Falls, SD; Keith Hanssen (Lynn), Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, Kelvin Jon Hanssen (Candi), Live Oak, FL; Shelby Hanssen, Minneapolis, MN; Gabrielle Hanssen, Minneapolis, MN; Tayler Hanssen, Fort Worth, TX; Keiana Hanssen, Sioux Falls, SD; Kenzee Hanssen, Alderson, WV; and four great grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ervin on October 11, 2020, an infant son (Kevin), her parents, and two sisters, Shirley (Blase) and JoAnn (Veldkamp).
