Sioux Falls, SD ~ Lurline L. Overgard, age 90, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Her funeral service will be 10:00 AM on Friday, February 6, 2026 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls with burial at Hills of Rest Cemetery. Her family will be present to greet friends for visitation on Thursday at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Lurline Lamora Andersen was born on September 4, 1935 in Marion, South Dakota to Chris and Bertha (Malzer) Andersen. She was raised and received her education in Marion. Following high school, Lurline made her home in Sioux Falls, SD. She was united in marriage with Charles “Charlie” Overgard on September 29, 1953 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. The couple were blessed with five children, Bruce, Brian, Julie, Brad and Janet.
Lurline worked at Sholties Grocery & Cafe, Wilson All American Credit Bureau, the Stockyards Cafe, managed Kentucky Fried Chicken and spent over 17-years at K-Mart until her retirement in 1990. In her retirement years, she stayed busy by cleaning offices and working at odd jobs around Sioux Falls.
Lurline enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, quilting, sewing, making afghans, collecting Holiday edition Barbies, decorating, hosting and event planning for the holidays. Lurline was a gifted seamstress and loved making her grandchildren’s clothing and Halloween costumes. She also enjoyed playing bingo and in her younger years playing cards with her neighbors. She also enjoyed watching Nascar, and Wheel of Fortune.
Lurline was also gifted with a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes. Above all she cherished spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed.
Grateful for having shared her life are her five children, Bruce (Barb) Overgard of Colton, SD, Brian Overgard of Sioux Falls, SD, Julie (Mike Bickett) Mudder of Brandon, SD, Brad Overgard of Sioux Falls, SD and Janet (Marty) Wiedman of Hartford, SD; grandchildren, Jessie (Kevin) Smith, Matt (Missy) Overgard, Kyle (Lydia) Mudder, Megan Mudder, Ryan (Shanna) Mudder, Nick Overgard, Amanda (Terry) Lurz and Patrick (Amber) Wiedman; great grandchildren, McKenzie, Brynlee, Nolan, Connor, Cami, Paige, Emily, Geri and Avery; one great granddaughter, Naomi; many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Charlie” Overgard; grandson, Nathan Overgard; her parents, Chris and Bertha Andersen; one sister, Viola Myott; and two brothers, Bob Andersen and Nels Andersen.
