Marian D. Peters, 95, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026 at Ava’s House Hospice in Sioux Falls, SD.
Private Family Services will be held.
Marian Dorothy Peters was born February 8, 1931, in Watertown, SD to Theodore H. and Alice (Madsen) Peters. She grew up on a farm near Watertown, SD and attended Waverly Schools where she graduated from high school in 1949. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD.
Her primary career was with the South Dakota Department of Labor where she worked for 29 years including seven years as manager of the Job Service office in Watertown, SD. She also worked for the Department in Sioux Falls, SD, Washington D.C., Aberdeen, SD, and Pierre, SD.
Her leisure activities included reading novels, attending movies, plays and South Dakota Symphony Orchestra concerts. She also enjoyed traveling, bird watching, writing stories and poems, watercolor painting, and playing bridge.
Marian was a member of the South Dakota State Poetry Society and served three years as president. Her other affiliations included the Sioux Falls Bird Club, Poet’ Round Table, and the Center for Active Generations where she volunteered as Book Club Leader and as a travel coordinator. Her poems were published in the Prairie Winds, Leaning Into The Wind, Crazy Woman Creek, Vermillion Literary Project, and Pasque Petals.
She is survived by brothers and sisters, Theodore Peters, Woodbury, MN, John Peters and his wife, Leona, Waukesha, WI, Judith DeWall, Jacksonville, FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Constance Dahl and Ruth Peters; a brother-in-law, Dean DeWall; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Peters.
