Marjorie I. Andrews

Marjorie Ilene Andrews peacefully passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Avantara Norton Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was 85 years old.

 Marjorie Ilene Willard was born on April 16, 1939, to Lloyd and Shirley (Williams) Willard. She grew up in Sioux Falls and attended Washington High School. At the age of 17, Marjorie began working at One Hour Martinizing Dry Cleaning.

 In September 1956, Marjorie married Neil Sherwood in Sioux Falls. The couple was blessed with five children: Jay, Joni, Julie, Jeffrey, and JoLyn. Marjorie and Neil divorced in 1969. On June 23, 1975, she married Ardis Andrews in Mitchell, South Dakota. Ardis later adopted Marjorie’s children, and the couple welcomed a son, Anthony “Tony.”

 Due to Ardis’s job, the family moved frequently. They lived in Wisconsin for a year and a half, Michigan for three years, Nebraska for two and a half years, California for six months, back to Michigan for two years, and finally settled in Sioux Falls in 1985. There, Marjorie had a brief stint working at the Mint Factory. She also helped open a dry-cleaning store in Sioux Falls and worked at Dakota Dry Cleaners and RJ Ries Valley Cleaners. After nearly 60 years in the dry-cleaning industry, Marjorie retired at the age of 76.

 Marjorie was known for her strong work ethic and financial savvy. She cherished spending time with her family and loved hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. A talented cook and baker, she was famous for her goulash, cranberry salad, pistachio pudding with pineapple, and orange fluff salad. Marjorie always ensured there was plenty of food, never letting anyone leave her house hungry.

 Marjorie is survived by her children: Jay Sherwood, Joni Andrews, Julie Andrews, Jeffrey (April) Andrews, and JoLyn Parker; as well as 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Kenneth (Carol) Willard, Dennis (Molly) Willard, Jeannie (Dan) Couch, and David (Karen) Willard, along with many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Shirley Willard; her husband, Ardis Andrews; her son, Anthony “Tony” Andrews; her brothers, Don and David Mark Willard; sister-in-law, Carol Willard; her niece, Vicki Breyfogle; and her nephew, Randall Willard.

 A memorial service to honor Marjorie’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Miller Funeral Home – downtown, 507 S. Main Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57104. Interment will take place at Hills of Rest Mausoleum, Sioux Falls, SD.
