Michael V. Lorang

Michael Vincent Lorang, 65, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from cancer, surrounded by his family at home. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, also at the funeral home. Military honors will take place at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, immediately following the funeral service.

Michael was born on December 11, 1960, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Vincent and Della (Albers) Lorang. He attended public schools, and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School in 1979. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as an Air Transportation Specialist. He served his country at multiple duty stations. The one he was most honored to serve was Dessert Storm/Dessert Shield, when he was awarded the Kuwait Liberation Medal. Michael proudly served for 16 ½ years, accepting early retirement on June 30, 1995.

He then owned and operated his own business, Power Seal, Longmont, CO, where he resurfaced bathtubs, cupboards, and countertops. Michael then moved back to South Dakota where he was employed by the South Dakota Highway Patrol as a Motor Carrier Inspector and finished his career working in the Permit Center. He retired after working 22 ½ years on January 30, 2026.

Michael and Kerry met each other in elementary school, destined to spend their lives together, where they resided in Sioux Falls, SD. Alex, their son, was a blessing in their lives for 18 years, until they lost him in a tragic car accident on November 21, 2017.

Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, doing yard work of any kind, learning to use his smoker, and messing around in his garage.

Grateful for having shared his life his wife, Kerry (Larson) Lorang; sisters, Kay Faber and Sandra (Jeff) Portice; sister-in-law, Jill (David) Lorang; brother, Jeffrey (Sandy) Lorang, all residing in Sioux Falls, SD; sisters-in-law, Kay Schmidt of Wichita, KS, Karyl (Richard) Divich, Karen (Blake) Johnson, Kathy (Lowell) Wilkinson, Konnie (Robert) Boe, all residing in Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Kevin (Deboarh) Larson of Rapid City, SD.

Mike was preceded in death by Vincent Lorang (Father), Della Lorang (Mother), David Lorang (Brother), Alexander Lorang (Son), Geraldine Koan (Mother-In-Law), Russell Koan (Father-In-Law), Kenneth Larson (Father-In-Law), and Karla Kuyper (Sister-In-Law).
