Muriel Kramer

Sioux Falls, SD ~ Muriel Marie Kramer, 83, passed away Friday, February 7, 2025 with her family by her side.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD with burial to follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls.  Her family will be present to greet friends for visitation on Wednesday, February 12 at George Boom Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Born to Reuben and Ina (Hill) Johnson on May 8, 1941, in Duluth, Minnesota, Muriel grew up on a farm in Cotton, Minnesota with her parents and graduated from Cotton High School in 1959.  She moved to Duluth after high school, where she graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in 1962.  She met her future husband, Louis Kramer, at a church retreat, and as the story goes, their initial meeting was the only time Muriel was ever early to anything!  Lou and Muriel married on September 7, 1963 in Cotton, Minnesota.

Lou and Muriel traveled around the country in their early married years, living in Minnesota, Alabama, Georgia, California, and Washington before they settled down in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1972.  There they raised three daughters and welcomed six beautiful grandchildren.

Muriel loved music from an early age, and she continued learning new instruments into her 60s, but she especially enjoyed playing her organ.  She also loved listening to music from her collection of over 1,000 CDs and even wrote, produced and recorded several of her own songs.  She loved to travel and enjoyed cruising to Alaska, the Caribbean, and Hawaii and made several trips to Santa Fe, New Mexico and other parts of the Southwest.

She was active in Daughters of the Nile for many years and served as Queen of the Ashrama Temple #97 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1994.  She was a member of the Shrine Auxiliary and also sang with the Sweet Adelines and was thrilled to encourage her talented grandchildren in their musical pursuits.  Muriel was an accomplished painter, creating beautiful artwork in oil and acrylic.  She enjoyed sewing, and her projects included clothing, afghans, embroidery and cross-stitch creations.  In her later years she became a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, but her true joy was always her grandchildren.

Grateful and blessed for having shared her life are her loving husband of 61 years, Louis Kramer of Sioux Falls, SD; her children: Cheryl (Rob) Sarges of Sioux Falls, SD and Krista (Chris) Larson of Sioux Falls, SD; her son-in-law, Conrad Jennesse of Valley Springs, SD; and her treasured grandchildren: Louis Kramer, Reese Larson, Tobias Jennesse, Gabriel Sarges, Rory Larson, and Louis Larson. Until we meet again, we will remember your passion for wild colors, especially lime green and tie-dye, your glitzy clothes and jewelry, and most of all, your immeasurable love for all of us.

Muriel is preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Ina Johnson; her in-laws, Francis and Sarah Kramer; her brother-in-law, Walt Kramer; and her daughter, Cynthia Kramer.
