Randy D. Postma
Randy “RP” Dale Postma, age 73, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the Avera Granite Falls Hospital in Granite Falls, MN. His family will be present to greet friends for visitation on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 11, 2026 also at the funeral home. Randy Dale Postma was born on March 10, 1953 in Sioux Falls, SD to Edward and Frances (Poppenga) Postma. Randy was raised and received his education in Sioux Falls. In 1973, Randy met Donna Shafer, and instantly knew he had found the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Randy and Donna were united in marriage on August 2, 1975 at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and were blessed with three sons, Ryan, Eric and Jesse.
Randy set out to be his own boss in 1977 with RP Construction, building homes for the next thirty years, alongside his brother Rick for most of them. In 2005 Randy opened Postma Excavating, working proudly with his three sons. Randy worked hard to perfect his craft, driven with self-determination and creativity to accomplish anything he had put his mind to. Passing these traits to his sons to give a little more than the client expected or the “Postma Pa’zazz”.
Randy had a “heart of gold” always willing to help anyone in need. He volunteered at Split Rock Fire Department for many years. He was a faithful member of Spirit of Truth Lutheran Church in Brandon and prior member of East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.
Randy was always up for an adventure, from hitchhiking to California following high school, to road-trips with his family. He loved listening to all genres of music, watching the History Channel and was always up for a debate (on nearly anything). Randy also loved animals, especially his shop-cat, Lucky. He enjoyed playing cards with his card club friends for over 40 years. Above all, Randy loved his family. He was a loving husband of 51-years, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Donna Postma; three sons, Ryan (Shelby Durfee), Eric (Missy) and Jesse (Heather); six grandchildren, Gavin, Logan, Kenly, Avery, Zachary and Micah; two grand-cats, Tres and LaLaa; siblings, Rick (LeRae) Postma, Ellie (Dan) Berg, Karen (Tony Seten) Nelson and David (Karen) Postma; sister-in-law, Judy Postma; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Frances Postma; brother, Don Postma; and his in-laws, John and Marcella Shafer.
