Riley James Novak, 32, of Pierre, SD, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 16th at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre.
Riley was born on October 14, 1993 to Craig and LeAnn (Schlenker) Novak. He grew up in Pierre with his two sisters, Ashlee and Nikki, and graduated from TF Riggs High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife and Fisheries. Riley also served in The Army National Guard. He worked as a carpenter for the State of SD. He married Kandi Mashburn on September 20, 2025 in Pierre.
One of Riley’s greatest achievements was attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He will be remembered for his willingness to help others with anything they need, especially construction projects. His dog, Avery, was his best friend and hunting buddy.
He loved spending time with Avery pheasant hunting watching NASCAR or cheering on the Rams. He found joy in so many different things and he loved working with his hands. He had a soul that left an impression on everyone who knew him. He was a man with an enormous heart, fierce love for those closest to him and loyalty that never wavered. He created countless memories for people to carry in their hearts forever.
Riley is survived by his parents Craig and LeAnn Novak, his sisters Ashlee (John) Rounds and Nikki (Jared) Soulek, his nieces and nephews Natalie, Maverick and Maddox Rounds and Dax and Adi Soulek, his grandpa Bob (Fyrne) Schlenker, his wife Kandin Mashburn Novak, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Riley was preceded in death by his grandma Marilyn Holder, grandparents Richard and Ida Novak.
