Rita A. Kane

Rita A. Kane, age 90 of Sioux Falls, SD passed away November 14, 2024, at Bethany Home in Brandon, SD. Her Memorial Service and Reception will be held, 11 AM, Friday, November 22, 2024, at Heritage Funeral Home, 4800 S. Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD.

Rita Arlene Kane, daughter of Arthur and Martha (Wetzel) Geilenfeldt was born July 27, 1934, in LaVerne, IA. Soon after, her family moved to Clear Lake, IA where she was a graduate of the Clear Lake High School Class of 1953. After graduation, she attended Flight Attendant School in Kansas City, MO. and worked for Braniff Airlines. It was during this time she met her future husband.

Rita was united in marriage with George Kent Kane on August 28, 1955, in Ventura, IA. After their marriage, they lived in numerous cities before settling down in Sioux Falls, SD in 1971. She was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom until her son attended high school. In 1975, Rita and George started Kane Enterprises, an animal health company. Due to their hard work and dedication, the business they started in the basement of their home grew into a multi-million dollar business.

In addition to Rita's strong work ethic, she was a passionate tennis player. Even though she didn't pick up a racquet until she was 38, she became a very good tennis player and played into her late seventies. She made lifelong friends playing tennis and traveled throughout the country playing in high level tournaments.

Rita's other passion in her life was listening to music and dancing. She could often be found listening to her favorites Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.

Rita is survived by her Son, Kevin Kane and his Wife, Robyn (Eickelkamp), Brandon, SD; Granddaughters, Brittany Kane, Denver, CO; Alexandra Kane, Las Vegas, NV; and Niece, Linda Iverson (Gary), Albert Lea, MN.

Rita is preceded in death by her Husband, George, January 31, 2007; Parents, Arthur and Martha Geilenfeldt; Brother, Louis Geilenfeldt; Sisters, Ruth Ristau; and LaVon Winters.
