Robert C. Sagmoe

Robert “Bob” Carlton Sagmoe, age 86, died on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Celebration of Life services will be 2:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD with burial to follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.  His family will be present to greet friends for visitation on Friday from 1:00-2:00 pm and during a reception after returning from the burial.

Robert was born on December 20, 1939, in Hendricks, Minnesota to Parnell and Norma (Hanson) Sagmoe.  His family made their home in Sioux Falls, SD in 1954 and it was here that Bob was raised and received his education graduating from Washington High School.  Bob was united in marriage with Gayle Schauer on April 6, 1963.  They made their home in Sioux Falls and were blessed with three children, Bradley, Bryan and Gretchen.

Bob built a career from the ground up, founding Sagmoe Plaster and Drywall in 1968 and running it for over three decades before retiring in 2000. His faith was the center of everything he did, and he found deep purpose in serving God through his local church, including his years of commitment to Gideons International, sharing Scripture with others and coordinating a team to build a church in Haiti.

Community mattered just as much to him. He was an early member of the Sioux Rise Lions Club and he loved riding along with Gayle as she delivered Meals on Wheels to neighbors in need. But anyone who knew him could find him out on Lake Oahe in Pierre, South Dakota, fishing rod in hand. He also cherished time camping and traveling in the RV, creating projects in woodworking, and most of all, spending time with his grandkids.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Gayle Sagmoe, Sioux Falls, SD; son, Bryan Sagmoe and his wife, Joan, Spearfish, SD; daughter, Gretchen Jordan and her husband, Luke, Minneapolis, MN; granddaughter, Lauren Rheault and her husband, Travis and their daughter, Elizabeth, Bismarck, ND; grandson, Jaron Sagmoe, Spearfish, SD; one sister, Phyllis Guggisberg; Knoxville, TN; many nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his son, Bradley Dean Sagmoe; his parents, Parnell and Norma Sagmoe; two brothers, Phillip and Donald Sagmoe; and two sisters, Joyce Sagmoe and Alice Asa.
