Robert E. Wichner

Robert “Bob” Eugene Wichner, age 85, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society – Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Private services will be held.

Robert was born on October 24, 1939 to Walter and Ann (Berghorst) Wichner in Valley City, North Dakota. He grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and graduated from Washington High School. He later enlisted in the US Navy, serving his country from 1959 until 1963. Though he spent most his life in Sioux Falls, Robert also spent some time in San Francisco, CA, after leaving the military, and Iowa. Robert was worked as an over-the-road trucker for most of his life. 

On November 17, 1958, Robert married Carol Glende in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. To this union, three children were born, Mike, Cathy, and Steve. On October 6, 1984, Robert was joined in marriage to Diane Niessink in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. 

Faith was a cornerstone in Robert’s life. He was an elder at Faith Temple church and a member of Word of Life Pentecostal Church. He taught and preached at both churches and he was active in his church community. Robert also loved to watch races at Huset’s Speedway, and even raced himself in his younger years. 

Grateful to have shared Robert’s life with him are his wife, Diane Wichner of Sioux Falls, SD; his sons, Mike Wichner of Sioux Falls, SD and Steve (Tammy) Wichner of Sioux Falls; and his daughter, Cathy (Kevin) Wiebers of Tea, SD; his grandchildren, Michael Jacobs, Michelle Darner, and Misty Wichner-Cauthern; Christopher Wiebers and Kelsey Barker; and Robert, Joshua, Kirby, Kyle and Kari Wichner and Sheri Hess; his seven great-grandchildren; and his life-long friend, Floyd Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ann Wichner; his sisters, Barbara Wichner, Mary Ryan-Wichner, and Linda Sue Montgomery; his brothers, Fred Wichner, and Alan Wichner; and his adopted daughter, Diana Wichner.
