Ruth E. Philips

Ruth Ellen Philips, 92, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully December 10, 2025, at Bethany Home in Sioux Falls. A Memorial Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Ruth will be interred at Hills of Rest Memorial Park following the service. 

Ruth was born September 28, 1933, in Mannington, West Virginia to James and Frances (Morris) Hinerman. She was born and raised there, along with her 10 siblings. She married John Hulsebus Jr on March 30th, 1957, with whom she had a daughter, Darla, and a son, Steven. In October of 1968, she married Robert Philips, the love of her life, whom she couldn’t wait to be reunited with after he passed in 2003.  

In the years that Ruth and Bob had together, they enjoyed camping and frequenting the local steakhouses.  They also shared a love for their dogs, Pippi, Penny Toby, and Benji.

Ruth enjoyed working on puzzles, watching Hallmark movies, spending time with her friends and family, and enjoying a good pancake breakfast.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Darla (Rick) Handel of Florida, and Steve (Mary) Hulsebus of North Carolina; grandchildren, Tiffany (Mike) Chaney, Angela (Evan) Trofholz, Lindsey (Nic) Faini, Mat (April) Hulsebus, Ryan Hulsebus, and Kelsey Poe; great-grandchildren, Kendall & Dexter Faini, Wrigley & Sloan Chaney, Benson, Augie, & Eli Trofholz, and Charlee Poe; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Philips; her parents; and siblings.
