Sharon was born on April 13, 1941, in Hawarden, Iowa, to Alma (Loe) Hudson and P. Floyd Hudson. She graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1959 and married Roger Trumbull later that year, moving to Portland, Oregon, where Roger was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. Upon moving back to South Dakota, Sharon worked part-time at Foremost Dairy and Martin’s Variety. Once her children were all in school, she worked full-time as a bookkeeper at Farmers State Bank in Canton, for over 25 years. Following moving to Sioux Falls, due to Roger’s ill health, she worked at First Premier Bank.
Sharon enjoyed gardening, reading, and singing, but more than anything, she enjoyed doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always looked out for their safety by calling to warn them of impending weather and telling them to “take cover, Sweetie,” or calling them “just to chat.” She was known for being physically affectionate – a nudge to one’s arm, kisses to grandchildren when she wasn’t supposed to (and always claiming ignorance), and demanding hugs each and every time she saw them. This was true until the end, when words were difficult, but she still reached out for her hugs.
A member of Grand Valley Lutheran, St. Mark’s Lutheran, Our Savior’s Lutheran, and Bethany Reformed, Sharon appreciated the fellowship she had with other members, in addition to her long-term friendships with high school classmates and former co-workers.
Sharon is survived by her daughters June (Jeff) Fossum of Canton, SD; Brenda (Jim) Bernard of Sioux Falls, SD; and Tami (Jerome) Van De Stroet of Inwood, IA; daughter-in-law Ginger Trumbull of Sioux Falls, SD; sister Phyllis Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law Mary Hudson of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law Judy Trumbull of San Marcos, TX; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roger Trumbull; son Dean Trumbull; great-granddaughter Grace Schroder; friend David Doman; and brothers Duane Hudson and Mike Hudson.
