Shirley Miller, 90 of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Ava’s Hospice House surrounded by her five children.
Visitation with the family present will begin at 1 pm with a funeral service at 2 pm on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 South Minnesota Avenue. A private burial will be held at Hills of Rest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to First United Methodist Church or to Ava's Hospice House.
Shirley Rae Chase, daughter of Ora and Ida (Hartenhoff) Chase, was born on August 7, 1935, in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up in Crooks, SD, and graduated from Lyons High School in 1953. She spent time in Omaha, NE, and worked with airline personnel training.
Shirley was united in marriage with Harold Miller on November 20, 1954 in Ellis, SD. The couple lived on a farm East of Colton, SD, and began to raise a family. Shirley worked at Sunshine Foods in the corporate office until the moving to Sioux Falls in 1969, where she began a career working in the office at First United Methodist Church. She continued there until retiring after 27 years of service.
In retirement, Shirley and Harold travelled the country in their camper and volunteered at the Washington Pavillion. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School Teacher and was involved in SAGES church group. She served and was chairwoman for funeral lunches and helped in the quilting group.
Harold passed away on August 2, 2018. Shirley remained active and cherished time spent with all of her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting, and baking.
Grateful for having shared his life are children Gayle (Tim) Coates, Sioux Falls, SD, Linda (Joel) Black, Rapid City, SD, Carol (Don) Heeren, Parker, SD, Robert (Linda) Miller, St. Louis, MO, Julie (Russ) Limke, Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law Nancy Chase, Sioux Falls, SD grandchildren Derek Heeren, Ryan Miller, Peter Coates, Jay Heeren, Kyle Miller, Andrew Limke, Nate Black, Jessica Limke Finneman, Justin Heeren, Elyssa Black Wilkerson, Kristen Miller, Amy Limke Barber, Lindsey Miller Albers; 23 great-grandchildren (soon to be 26!); and many other relatives and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Harold; sisters Lois Colwill, Delores Cook; and brothers Wayne and Larry.
